As the mindset of healthcare in our country shifts, many parents are seeking out a "wellness approach" to caring for their families. The rate of utilizing nonmedical services for children has almost doubled in the last few years -- with chiropractic being the most popular of those services.
A 2009 study of 577 pediatric chiropractic cases sought to discover not only why so many parents were choosing chiropractic for their children, but also how safe and effective it was. Of those 577 patients, a remarkable 46% were brought in for "wellness care!" Of the remaining cases, 26% were for pain and stiffness, 7% for digestive problems, 6% for ear, nose, and throat problems, 6% for neurological problems, 5% for immune dysfunction, and 4% for other reasons. Only 0.5% of cases had any reports of negative side effects which were described as a type of "soreness!"
The most common improvements in children under chiropractic care were not only decreased pain, but also improved immune function, improved mood, and improved sleep!
