Pregnancy and Scoliosis

Chiropractic has been assisting in the care of pregnant moms dating all the way back to its inception! Chiropractic is used by many women not only to address physical complaints associated with pregnancy, but also for wellness care!

For many women who suffer from scoliosis, especially those who have received surgery like Harrington rods in the past, an additional level of complexity is brought to the table. However, because your chiropractor utilizes a specific analysis to detect the presence and location of vertebral misalignments, called subluxations, and very gently and specifically corrects them utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, he or she can help, especially in these more complicated situations!

For example, we can look at the care of a 28-year-old woman who presented to a chiropractic office at 21
weeks pregnant with some shoulder and neck pain. Years prior, she had had surgery for scoliosis that left rods in her spine all the way from T2 (just below the base of her neck) to L3 (all the way at the base of her back). With gentle and specific chiropractic care, she not only saw improvements in the pain, but also her quality of life! What was the best part, though? She could give birth the way she chose, and avoid a C-section!
